Police arrested BS and T on Wednesday for their alleged involvement in a mutilation case, where the victim’s body parts were found on Cikampek toll road in East Jakarta on Tuesday. Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told reporters on Thursday that Darna Sri Astuti, the victim, died after BS, her husband, allegedly repeatedly assaulted her and that BS then mutilated her body allegedly to make it easier for him to carry her and mislead anyone who would find the parts.
“T, the couple’s maid, helped BS throw the body parts on the Cikampek toll road on Tuesday morning,” he said. “Police found that BS [allegedly] committed the assault at around 12:00 a.m. early on Saturday.” Rikwanto said BS allegedly murdered his wife for believing that she had cheated on him. He beat his wife with a blunt object until she died in their home on Jl. Bungur Raya in Kampung Rambutan subdistrict, East Jakarta. Rikwanto said after she had died, BS mutilated her into five parts, took out all her internal organs and put them in a plastic bag, which he had kept for two days.
“In the meantime, he rented a public minivan from his neighbor [a public minivan driver] and drove the car [to the toll road] to throw the body parts on the toll road with [the help of] his maid,” Rikwanto said. “They hoped that trucks and cars would run over [the body parts] so it would be difficult to identify [the parts].” “We also plan to conduct a psychological test on the suspects,” he said. Rikwanto said police were still investigating why T allegedly helped BS to dispose of his wife’s body parts.
He said BS sold soto (soup) in a kiosk at his home, while T sold jamu (herbal drinks) at the same place and worked as a maid at BS’ home. Police have summoned the public minivan driver and his crew, Oki and Martin, as witnesses, to gather further information. Police also confiscated a sword, two kitchen knives and the minivan as evidence. Rikwanto said BS paid the witnesses Rp 250,000 (US$26) and told them that he would use the car to transport his equipment and sell soto.
Rikwanto said following media reports of the case, two people, Juhadi and Yusuf Efendi, had reported to police that they had walked past the minivan driven by BS on Tuesday morning. Rikwanto said they told the minivan driver that something had gone off in the minivan, but they received no response. The two, who were also questioned as witnesses, were heading to work in Bekasi on that day. Rikwanto said BS would likely face 20 years in prison or the death sentence for premeditated murder, breaching Article 340 of the Criminal Code, while T would likely face two-thirds of BS’ punishment for assisting him, under Articles 56 and 57. Meanwhile, police began the case reenactment on Thursday at BS’ home, kompas.com reported. The reenactment is also scheduled for Friday on the same toll road. (fzm)
