0 Babi Guling Ibu Oka

Babi Guling Ibu Oka is the infamous suckling roast pig that has the world talking, is only you can try during your trip to Ubud. Daily 8 whole pigs are roasted but during the holiday season they can prepare up to 12 pig roasts. Lets just remind you that Ibu Oka opens only 7 hours a day and if you did the math, you would realize the colossal amount of mouths demanding to be fed!. The dish, served with a generous amount of rice at the bottom and garnished with crackling pork skin, tender and very aromatic pork meat, accompanied with assorted fried innards and chili-vegetable condiment may appear simple is not to be underestimated, for it requires a special expertise to prepare. The preferred way to enjoy this meal is with your bare hands.

Seating capacity is however limited, and diners would often have to eat their food standing up or squatting outdoors. This place is so famous that customers would even brave the drenching rain to find a corner to savour every morsel of the delicious pork. Nothing goes to waste at Ibu Oka’s, utilizing every part of the pig, the bloody sausage, with strong flavors and tender meat is equally a mouth-watering treat. It gets one thinking though, what makes Ibu Oka’s suckling pig roast more special amongst the thousands of restaurants serving Babi Guling around Bali? The only person who holds the answer to that question is Ibu Oka’s part owner, who revealed to us that the secret lies in the consistency and hard work that is put into maintaining the quality of the pig roast, that has been perfected by his family over generations.

When asked about Ibu Oka’s suckling pig recipe, there was no hesitation to disclose the ingredients and we were even offered a tour of the kitchen. We also enquired about all the hype that Ibu Oka has stirred worldwide and the answer was that it was likely due to a gentleman from the U.S.A who had promised to publish a column about Ibu Oka in the American newspaper, 4 to 5 years ago. Forget printed media, this humble gentleman surely didn’t realize the raving reviews that world renowned chefs like Anthony Bourdain, aired on the famous TV show No Reservations that almost contemplated the hard core New Yorker to leave his concrete jungle hometown and settle down in Bali for good, courtesy of Ibu Oka. Those who have had the opportunity to taste Ibu Oka’s suckling pig will realize that without a doubt, there is no other place like it in the world.

0 Bebek Bengil Restaurant

Bebek Bengil Restaurant (Dirty Duck Dinner) was first opened in 1990, since then we have been serving delicious foods and providing good services in a friendly, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Many people have asked us how we got the name Bebek Bengil, well here’s the story. When we were building the restaurant, we thought long and hard about a name. Many good suggestions came from our friends, but none seemed just right. We knew we wanted a Balinese name that translated well into English.

However, for a long time the metaphor eluded us. One tropical monsoon morning, when the restaurant was very close to being finished (we had the concrete floor down, and the tables in), a flock of ducks from the rice field across the road (yes, there were rice fields all around us then) ran quacking and squawking into the restaurant and across the floor and tables. They left muddy webbed footprints all over the place. They were our first guests – those dirty ducks !

0 Made's Warung

Made's Warung is a longtime Bali favorite, and for good reason, the original location is an open-air place at street side in Kuta. But the new space in Seminyak is a big improvement — it’s protected from the road and bustling with people, not beeping motorbikes. If it’s busy, and it often is, don’t be surprised if you end up sharing a table. Gado gado, satay, and curries are all recommended, and the price is right. Fun surprises on the menu include a bagel with smoked marlin, tofu burgers, and Caesar salad.

Don’t pass up the daily specials, particularly the fresh fish. The famous Made’s Warung is a restaurant located in two places (Kuta and Seminyak). The first warung, originally located in Kuta was only a small joint serving traditional snack to rice farmers and surfers. Run by Made’s family, Made’s Warung now become the most popular eatery in Bali with its strategic location, resembles a traditional country house, with wooden warung style tables and a good view of the bustling main road.

Made’s Warung has a large garden area with tables and chairs, plus an inside section with the ‘warung style’ tables layout. Warung style means long table and bench seating. I always prefer this to the ‘everyman is an island’ style that westerners go for. Made’s Warung is a people watching place galore, and cool just to sit and sip a drink. The staff are all Balinese and I chatted with a couple of them.

0 La Lucciola Restaurant

La Lucciola Restaurant is perched right on the edge of the beach. An enormous open, thatch-roofed building, with dining on two levels. I always head for the upstairs section, as a nice breeze is almost inevitable, the large bamboo furniture seems to suit the place and the occasion. Sarong-clad waiters are ready to assist. Service here is always simple and professional, attentive yet never pushy nor over-the-top. Menu knowledge is excellent, and most visits go off without any hiccups.

Excellent fruit juices and/or granitas make a pleasant beginning for many diners, particularly during the day. Very thirst-quenching and most enjoyable. For lunch a variety of entrees, very mixed in origin and style, often suffice for a pleasant and relaxing meal. A pair of King Prawns with thin chips of Sweet Potato stuck all over them. If there’s a see-and-be-seen spot among the Kuta crowd, it’s La Lucciola. Even breakfast draws the beautiful people, and why not, with its prime beachfront location on this deserted stretch of Legian.

Morning eye-poppers include tasty ricotta hotcakes and smoked-salmon scrambled eggs on toasted focaccia. The dinner menu is equally enticing, with choice offerings such as lemongrass bok-choy risotto with sesame ginger, or oven-baked snapper with braised shallots and oregano. The seafood specials, calamari, and a unique prawn-and-snapper pie are tops, in addition to a complement of good pasta and traditional Italian fare. End with a bracing espresso and tiramisu.

0 Ayam Tulang Lunak Malioboro

Ayam Tulang Lunak Malioboro which is located in Jalan Kediri Tuban, Kuta Bali is very famous for it’s chicken food specialized. The place was brightly lit with blown-up photo murals of their famous chicken. Special Menu: Pressure-cooked chicken, the mural announced. To Day promised us it was very good and the bones were soft-enough to eat. Another two thumbs up for To Day. This restaurant is quite popular among the tourists and they specialized in Ayam Tulang Lunak.

What’s that? Is actually fried chicken using pressurized cooking method, deep fried till very crispy and tender even the bone can be eaten. The restaurant is air-conditioned and clean with simple interior setting. Forget about the calories and the cholesterol from all that oil, It was finger lickin’ good. Add the plate for lickin’ too as this is one chicken meal that would leave your plate clean as the bones are so soft and crispy they’re good enough to eat. If Bali is not only the home of the gods but it’s also the home of the best chicken.

0 Warung Kedewatan

Warung Kedewatan which is located in Ubud will serve you the delicious chicken food menu. Nasi Ayam Kedewatan gives you the chance to choose-the sitting on the floor-gazebo or -sitting on the chairs-gazebo. A comfortable place for having a lunch. However, Nasi Ayam Kedewatan’s Mrs. Mangku is not just armed with comfortable place but also balanced with the delicious and filling dish. Nasi campur (rice served with many kinds of food mate) is the only one menu offered. But don’t be disappointed.

Because this menu’s concept is Nasi Campur so you get various food mates in one plate. The food mates are made from 80% chicken. That rice on the white plate is mated with sate lilit (chopped chicken mixed with grated coconut and some spices then those are roasted), Tum (slices of chicken mixed with spices and grated coconut covered by banana leaves then steamed), two kinds of slices chicken; the hot spicy chicken and very soft and delicate chicken, sayur lawar (a very small slices of long bean mixed with spicy grated coconut), boiled egg, sisit ayam (a hot spicy chicken which had been cut up into strips), fried nut, fried chicken intestine, and very hot spicy special dry sauce.

Since it consists of a lot of food mate, sometimes people order a plate of rice then they continue eating it again. For me, two thumbs up for Tum. Its tum has soft texture but you can find small pieces of hard thing in it. This is a pretty mate. In general this will be your favorite restaurant with your family, friends, and mate. You only must spend your 10.000 rupiah for it. Then you will leave Nasi Ayam Kedewatan restaurant with full stomach and fresh mind. Don’t you want to try it?
