As a person with no knowledge of the law, I do not intend to take sides. I am only an anxious citizen who cares about justice in this country and wants to remind the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) that the institution may have been unfair in carrying out its job. It is about the arrest of former Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) chairman Luthfi Hasan Ishaaq as a suspect. We know that the arrest of Luthfi was done quickly and swiftly.
According to the KPK, this arrest was done red-handed, although the KPK did not directly arrest the PKS politician. Furthermore, the commission said that if there are two items of evidence, a person can be declared a suspect. But this reason is not logical. Why have some people not been arrested despite a preponderance of evidence? When the protests came from PKS, the chairman of the commission simply said: “If you do not agree with the commission, you can bring a pre-trial case.”
What about those who have already been named suspects but not yet imprisoned? Is there such a legal mechanism for at the pre-trial stage to protest the inaction of the KPK against suspects who have not yet been arrested? Is this fair? Remember that, as a religious community, we need to always uphold justice in carrying out the law. Those in KPK are also human beings that can go wrong and make mistakes.
