Bali Governor Made Mangku Pastika presented on Wednesday cash donations to the families of five individuals killed in a string of disasters that took place recently. The fatalities were identified as Ni Ketut Gendri, 57, Ni Wayan Wendri, 62, I Wayan Landep, 71, Jero Made Setyawati, 35, and Anak Agung Ayu Sri Suasti, 51. They perished in separate locations during the recent landslide and flooding that hit Tabanan.
“I know that no amount of assistance can replace the loss of a loved one. I only hope that these donations will ease the economic burden of the families, particularly in organizing the cremation ceremonies,” Pastika said, referring to the Balinese Hindu ritual that can cost a lot of money. Pastika said that the provincial administration had allocated a special fund to provide cash donations to any Bali resident killed in a disaster.
“In the next few weeks, I will also pay a visit to the families of disaster victims in Gianyar and Buleleng regencies,” he added, as quoted by Antara news agency. Provincial Disaster Mitigation Agency head Dewa Made Indra disclosed that in 2012 the amount of cash donations presented to the families of disaster victims reached Rp 300 million (US$30,950).
