Six police officers from the Ogan Komering Ulu Police force were injured in a clash with dozens of Indonesian Military (TNI) personnel in Baturaja, Ogan Komering Ulu regency, South Sumatra, at 8 a.m. local time on Thursday. “We will initiate a full investigation into what happened,” South Sumatra Police chief Insp.Gen.Iskandar Hasan told The Jakarta Post over the phone.
The clash was allegedly retaliation by the military personnel against police following the death of First Pvt.Heru Oktavianus, a soldier from the second Regional Military Command's (Kodam II) Sriwijaya Armed Batallion 15, on Jan. 23. During the clash, Ogan Komering Ulu Police precinct was also set alight, forcing police officers to evacuate detainees to a safe place.
