A Jambi Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer has confiscated 1.5 tons of diesel fuel in Bayung Lencir, Musi Banyuasin regency, South Sumatra. The diesel fuel being smuggled in a Toyota Kijang was seized when it passed by the Brimob headquarters in Bertam, Muarojambi regency. During the operation, the police also arrested Sugeng, the 35-year-old driver of the car.
Sugeng said he was bringing the diesel to Muara Bulian in Batanghari regency, Jambi province. He said that the car had been modified to carry a tedmond (a kind of oil tank) and drums to store the fuel. “The diesel oil is not mine. I was just told to bring this car from Bayung Lencir to Muara Bulian and for this I was paid Rp 150,000 (US$15.43) and got an additional Rp 200,000 of pocket money,” said Sugeng.
The Brimob officer, Second Insp. S. Berutu, said Tuesday that he halted the car after he received information saying that there was an alleged illegal transportation of diesel fuel from Bayung Lencir. Berutu said the case would be handed over to investigators at the Jambi police for a further investigation. “We will coordinate first with our superiors. After that, we will hand over the case to investigators at the Jambi Police for a follow up the investigation,” he said. (ebf)
