0 BNN Arrest Man Caught With 2.5 Kilograms of Meth

The National Narcotics Agency have arrested a furniture store owner after he was caught receiving a package concealing 2.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, an official said on Monday. Sumirat Dwiyanto, a spokesman for the agency known as BNN, said the furniture store owner, identified as N.R., was arrested on Feb. 1, after customs officials at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport discovered the suspicious package, a pot which arrived from India, on Jan. 30. 

The package was directed to A.S., his alias, to an address in South Tangareng, Banten. “After a check up through the X-Ray scanner, the package was suspected to have contained narcotics,” he said. A day after the package arrived, N.R. contacted the courier company to deliver the package to the aforementioned address. On Feb. 1, the company went to deliver the package to the address but N.R stopped the courier on the street. 

“The package had not arrived at the house, but A.S. stopped the courier on the way to house,” Sumirat explained. “After receiving the package, A.S. was arrested and from the examination, the package contained clear crystals of sabu-sabu [crystal methamphetamine].” The furniture store owner claimed that the drugs were not his. He said that he had been promised a sum of money from an acquaintance to take the package to an empty house in the Pamulang area. 

“The house was empty. My friend asked me to take care of the package. After that, I would get the money, but I don't know how much,” N.R. said. The man could be charged under the 2009 Law on Narcotics, which carries a maximum sentence of death.
