Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said Friday that the administration has to postpone its plan to open the Transjakarta busway lanes for public minibuses on Jan. 15 due to unfinished preparations. “I have checked the preparations and it seems that we have to suspend [the trial period] for around a week. We want things organized and don’t want to force what’s not yet ready,” Jokowi said as quoted by beritajakarta.com.
The administration had previously announced that they would commence a trial period next Monday to allow buses from PT Koperasi Angkutan Jakarta (Kopaja) to join the integrated bus network (APTB) feeder system. The system would allow public minibuses, such as Kopaja and Metromini buses, to operate in the Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) exclusive lane and share bus stops, in an attempt to reduce congestion by luring more passengers to public transportation.
The preparations needed to integrate the minibuses into the system include adjusting the buses to available Transjakarta’s bus stops, such as by providing right-hand side doors and high decks. Kopaja will operate P20 buses, serving Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to Harmoni in Central Jakarta, and S13 buses, serving Ragunan in South Jakarta and Dukuh Atas, Central Jakarta to join the system.
