0 Merpati cancels landing in Kupang due to bad weather

A Merpati Nusantara Airlines airplane serving the Denpasar–Kupang route on Monday aborted its landing due to bad weather at El Tari Airport in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, and was forced to return to Bali. “A Merpati airplane could not land today due to bad weather. A number of Susi Air flights have also been canceled for the same reason,” state-owned airport operator PT AP I El Tari Airport duty manager Gabriel Keraf said as quoted by Antara news agency. Heavy rains have pounded the province over the past three days. A number of flights to El Tari from Aeroboesman Airport in Ende, East Nusa Tenggara, have been canceled as a result, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded in Ende’s airport. Abdul Muis, a passenger hoping to fly from Ende to Kupang, said that he had been waiting for two days in Aeroboesman Airport. “We cannot force it [to fly] or blame the airline because, of course, safety should be our top priority,” he said.
