The Corruption Eradication Commission has extended a travel ban slapped on House of Representatives member Izederik Emir Moeis, who is suspected of involvement in a graft case related to a Lampung power plant project. “We have extended the travel ban on I.E.M. for another six months,” Bambang Widjojanto, deputy chairman of the antigraft agency (KPK), said on Thursday, referring to Emir by his initials. Bambang said that although the travel ban has been extended, Emir has yet to be questioned.
Emir, a legislator from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), was accused in June 2012 of taking a $300,000 bribe from French power plant contractor Alstom to help it win a contract to build a power plant in Tarahan, Lampung, in 2004. In its ongoing investigation into the power plant project, the KPK has also imposed travel bans on Zuliansyah Putra Zulkarnain, the director of Artha Nusantara Utama, and Reza Reza Rustam Munaf, the general manager of Indonesia Site Marine.
Both companies were part of the consortium that won the Tarahan contract with Alstom Indonesia. Reza has been identified by local media as a former official with Alstom Power Energy Systems Indonesia, a subsidiary of Alstom Indonesia.
