Malaysian Peter Davis will soon be put to the test as a mixed martial artist. The 31-year-old will fight against Indonesian Leo Krishna at the One Fighting Championships opening series Return of Warriors in Kuala Lumpur on Feb. 2. The 5-1-0 record holder will have the chance to show off his wild side in the cage — a contrast to his softer persona as a model and an actor. In an e-mail interview with the Jakarta Globe, Davis expressed confidence in his ability to entertain crowds and fight hard.
How is the preparation for the fight going? What can you promise fans?
Preparation is going well. I’ve worked on areas that needed to be improved. The final big push is yet to come and I’m already feeling good. All I can promise is that it’s going to be a great show and one of us will be choked out or KO’d [knocked out]!
What do you expect in the fight with Leo?
I’ve seen some footage of Leo’s, he has a good ground game and as a BJJ [Brazilian jiu-jitsu] practitioner, that’s expected. My ground game is not too shabby, but that is an area that I have focused on in order to cover myself against Leo’s skills. I’m hoping to move in with striking as per usual. However if it goes to the ground, I’ll be ready! What made you decide to sign a contract with OneFC, despite your busy schedule as an actor, model and MMA teacher? I do have a busy schedule and I don’t get much free time to myself, but I have a passion for martial arts. I teach a number of students and by fighting in OneFC, it gives me a chance to truly challenge myself and test out my style of fighting. It gives me more confidence to teach the Wuji style because I can find out what really works and what doesn’t.
For how long will you fight for OneFC?
I have several fights left on my contract with OneFC and with the help of Wuji and Muayfit, I hope to put up some great exhibitions of skill for years to come.
How do you manage your time as an actor, model and also martial artist?
My priority is to do whatever I’m doing as well as I can. If I’m modeling, I’ll try to make the shoot or the show look as good as it can. If I’m playing a character, I’ll make it as real and natural as I can while being convincing in the role. When I fight, I’m 100 percent in it to win it. I study my opponent, I train hard, I go home so tired that I can’t sleep! That’s just the way I do things.
What does MMA mean to you?
MMA means mixing it up and learning new skills everyday. Just the other day a fellow fighter suggested that I try a new move, I did and it works ... maybe I’ll sneak it in to my fight with Leo? You never know.
What is your biggest goal in life?
My biggest goal in life is to enjoy it. There are too many things to do in a day that if you keep yourself too busy, you’ll let your life pass you by. I’ve got a 2-year-old kid and I would love to see him grow up and have a great childhood ... but saying that, a OneFC belt would be a great goal to achieve.
