Harmani, 33, was just as surprised as her fellow passengers when at seven months pregnant she gave birth while on a Merpati Nusantara flight to Makassar, South Sulawesi, from Timika, Papua, on Sunday night. PT Merpati Nusantara Airlines (Merpati) president director Rudy Setyopurnomo said in Jakarta on Monday that the plane departed from Timika at 7 p.m. Harmani, who was returning home to Maros, suddenly went into labor. “Our crew immediately assisted Harmani and the baby was born safely,” he said as quoted by kompas.com. Rudy said Harmani and the baby were taken to the hospital after the plane landed at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar. The mother and the baby are reportedly in stable condition.
