0 15 illegal immigrants nabbed at airport

The police say officers have arrested 15 illegal immigrants from Afghanistan at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on Tuesday. “We arrested the immigrants when they arrived at Terminal 1-B at 7 a.m. after they failed to provide their passports when asked,” airport police chief Sr. Comr. Chuzaini Patopoy told The Jakarta Post, adding the immigrants had arrived from Padang, West Sumatra. 

“The immigrants, who had been using fake names, said that they had been staying on Mentawai Island, West Sumatra, for a couple of months before flying to Jakarta on a Lion Air flight,” the chief said. Chuzaini said that the immigrants, who were headed to Christmas Island, Australia, planned to go from the airport to Jl. Jaksa in Central Jakarta via rental cars. The case was transferred to the Immigration Office for further investigation, he said.
