0 Kampial murderers facing death sentence

Husband and wife Heru Hendriyanto and Putu Anita Sukra Dewi, defendants in the murder of a family in Kampial Residence Nusa Dua, are facing the death sentence at Denpasar District Court. The couple was in session on Tuesday. Hearing the possible sentence, Anita sobbed. At Tuesday’s hearing, led by judge IGAB Komang Wijaya Adhi, public prosecutor Edy Artha Wijaya stated that the defendants were guilty of committing premeditated murder. “The defendants have been inhumane by taking three lives, the lives of a whole family,” stated Edy.
In a separate trial, led by judge Parulian Saragih, prosecutor Edy demanded 13 years imprisonment for a third defendant, the couple’s alleged accomplice, Sugiono, 21, for his presumed role in the murder of I Made Purnabawa, 28, his wife Ni Luh Ayu Sri Mahayoni, 27, and their nine-year-old daughter, Ni Wayan Risna Ayu Dewi. “The defendant purposefully assisted in premeditated murder and thus broke the law,” stated Edy. While Heru, 25, and Anita, 21, will read their defense statements on Tuesday next week, Sugiono, through his lawyer Edy Hartaka, plans to plead for a commutation in the next hearing.
Made Purnabawa and Ni Wayan Ratnawati, relatives of the late family, said they agreed with the death sentence. “But what’s with the 13 years imprisonment? They must all be put to death. After all, Sugiono was involved in planning their murder,” said Ratna. As reported previously, Heru and Anita were caught at their home in Situbondo, East Java, a few days after the three bodies were found on Feb. 20 in the backyard of a resident of Banjar Sumbul, Yeh Embang village, in Jembrana regency. Heru and his wife admitted that they had planned the murder out of resentment as the victims had treated them and their son, Agus Setiawan, poorly.
They said that the family previously welcomed them just like members of their own family, however, the treatment changed later. Among their complaints, the defendants claimed that they were not given food, no longer allowed to watch the family’s television, had their salary reduced, and that their son was once pushed over by the deceased wife. As their resentment grew, Heru and Anita allegedly recruited four accomplices, Abdul Kodir, 36, Safa’at, 32, Sugiono, 21, and Hadi. The latter still a fugitive. In several meetings, they are thought to have discussed and planned the strategy to execute the murders. One of the meetings was allegedly held at a construction site on Jl. Petitenget in Kerobokan.
They purportedly put their plan into action and went to the victims’ home on Feb. 14. Heru allegedly promised Rp 20 million (US$2,087) to Safa’at and Rp 10 million to Kodir for committing the murders. The three victims were allegedly hit on the head with a block of wood while they slept by Kodir, Safa’at and Hadi, while Heru and Anita supervised. Sugiono assisted in dumping the bodies. The family dog was also killed and buried in the yard. After the killing, they allegedly wrapped the bodies in bed covers and took the victims’ family car, a Kijang Inova, to Jembrana to dump the bodies. They then ran away to Java with the victims’ car and motorcycle.
